In Real Life: Week 1

Hello again, friends! It’s been a while. Two years and several months, actually. And so, so much has changed since then. I hope you’ll forgive me if I don’t rehash it.

But through all of the change, I have never stopped missing my weekly photo blog. I’ve missed the way it made me look for beautiful ordinary things to photograph every day. I’ve missed the regular reflection it required of me, and the positive spin I forced myself to put on what I’d been through each week. The practice of blogging this way was therapeutic for me, I think.

Which is why I’m back today to start again. I now have the time and the bandwidth to return to it and it’s calling me, so… here we are. Let’s dive in. 🙂

2020 was a shit year for pretty much everyone. I couldn’t think of a better way to kiss it goodbye than by getting the first shot in my Covid-19 vaccination series.

I spent most of the rest of New Years Eve just being chill.

But it was cold that day, and after spending too much time on the porch I ended up in the bath to warm up. (I can’t tell you how much I love my big soaker tub.)

New Years Day was spent in Santa Cruz while Robbie moved his things.

It was a gorgeous day, and Jack enjoyed the adventure.

Just look at that unbridled joy!

I love the cliffs of the central coast.

Big changes. Small progress.

A hard goodbye.

Three words: fat and happy.

I feel a need to document the strangeness of everyday pandemic life. Like seeing “mask required” signs everywhere.

I’ve been enjoying smoothies for breakfast off and on for a while now. My current favorite trick is to pack the blender the night before so all I have to do is plug and play in the morning.

I’m also trying to cultivate some other healthy habits right now. I’m hoping that having this space available to me may help me stick with it.

Something to meditate on and carry through the day.

New glasses, who dis? (Don’t you love that cat eye?)

Seen at the dispensary. I lol’d.

I love a good list.

To help meet that “1 book/month” goal, I’ve started reading on my lunch breaks. Since I can’t seem to make myself do it consistently any other time of the day…

Speaking of lunch… the cafeteria killed it this day.

A room that should be full of ventilators but isn’t because #Covid19.

Watching the January 6th capitol insurrection happen live from my desk… a phrase I never imagined I’d type.

I love that Jack likes to use this little wavy safety knife to cut produce with me. Sometimes I let him batch chop things, and then I smile later when I see the little ridges and remember that he chopped that for me.

Felt cute, might delete later.

That’s a wrap for this week! I’m hoping to remember to take more pictures in the coming week… I’m out of practice!
