In Real Life: Week 3

The third week of 2017 was a busy one! Which basically means most of these are going to be baby photos, because that’s all mama had time for, lol.

Like this one! Of our little wiggle boo in his new BSU jammies. We got a lot of BSU stuff while we were in Idaho.

Monday night my parents graciously agreed to watch the boys so Robbie and I could go on a real date. We were mostly celebrating my birthday (which was Tuesday), but also our anniversary that happened the week before. Mom told me to get dessert… I decided I wanted a fancy drink, too.

img_1691

And then Robbie surprised me with this…

img_1696

…he done good!

Tuesday was, sadly, our last day in Idaho. We celebrated my birthday at our favorite Mexican restaurant, and, of course, the obligatory sombrero. Usually it’s Megan wearing the sombrero!

It was nice to see the sunset over the Owhyees one more time.

fullsizeoutput_ac7

“Mama, why are you upside down?” His little eyes are getting so much better and focusing and following me around the room.

img_1725

Artemis was not impressed that she kept trying to snuggle against Jack’s foot and kept getting kicked in the head instead. No one ever claimed she was very smart.

img_1717

I bought this little coffee mug from my favorite coffee shop before we left. It’s been raining again all week, and it cheered me up to have a little piece of home on a dreary morning.

img_1733

Chunky monkey had his 2-month appointment on Friday. He’s nearly doubled his birthweight, is almost 24″ long, and has a giant noggin that registers in the 82nd percentile! Rocking some more of his new BSU clothes, too.

fullsizeoutput_b68

We won’t talk about what also happened on Friday. All we can do is laugh to keep from crying.

img_1688

Loved this photo from one of the Women’s Marches on Saturday. I wish I could have participated. (PS: Not my photo.)

And with that, I shall leave you with BB8 baby butt. Aren’t these pants my friend, Jenica, made just awesome?

Til next week, friends!

In Real Life: Week 2

A second week of 2017 come and gone!

I’ve been playing with filters a lot again. It’s pretty fun to see what I can do.

This goof ball likes to hang out while I get ready.

fullsizeoutput_a82

James got a Lego Millenium Falcon for his birthday, so he and Robbie have been putting it together. There’s only been a little bit of yelling.

fullsizeoutput_a83

Lego Chewbacca makes me laugh.

fullsizeoutput_a7a

Sunday snuggles with Daddy.

fullsizeoutput_a81

I had to go to the recorder’s office to pick up Jack’s birth certificate this week. Apparently they don’t just automatically send you one… you have to formally request one. Who knew? (I guess someone mentioned it while we were in the hospital, but hey, that was a pretty stressful, exhausting few days. No one should have expected me to remember any of that.)

fullsizeoutput_a7d

The stacks of books were impressive. Can you imagine keeping hard records of literally every important document for the entire county for years and years? Thank God for the digital age.

fullsizeoutput_a7c

The whale baby bath tub is tired of your shenanigans.

fullsizeoutput_a80

We finished off the week with a trip to Idaho to visit family! I was honestly pretty nervous about flying with Jack, but luckily we had a direct flight and he slept in the wrap carrier the whole time.

img_1569

We spent lots of time with Grandma Gigi…

img_1613

…and Grandma Carrie…

img_1626

…and Grandpa Foreman…

img_1636

…and Auntie Meggie.

img_8872

Little Boo even had his 2-month birthday while we were there! We celebrated with a welcome open house, where he got to meet lots of our Idaho friends and extended family. He had to dress up for his big party, of course… in his adorable plaid shirt and his first pair of baby jeans.

img_1629

How adorable is this cupcake display that my mom’s friend, Shannon, made for us?

img_1646

It was pretty special seeing my grandparents meet Jack for the first time.

img_2472  img_0233  fullsizerender-4

We also spent lots of time with my friend, Savannah. She’s basically been family since 7th grade.

img_1656

And we got to meet her new baby girl, too.

img_4303

You might remember the photo on the left from last May…

IMG_3973 fullsizerender-5

Man, a lot has changed since then.

Poor Idaho has just been pounded with record amounts of snow for the last 3 weeks. People here are (understandably) very tired of it, but I have been loving it. This is how winter should be.

fullsizerender-3

Floor time with Grandma.

img_1680

My feet have officially grown a full size since I had Jack. My dad very generously bought me a new pair of boots for my birthday (which is Tuesday!), since mine no longer fit. They’re so comfy and cute, I may not wear any other shoes for a long time.

fullsizerender-2

Jack is pretty tired of being passed around this weekend. “Enough, Mom. Let me sleep.”

img_1679

We’re still here until tomorrow night. We’ve got a date for some hot cocoa this afternoon, and then Robbie and I are going on our first date alone since Jack was born! It isn’t romantic, but we may opt for Mongolian BBQ one more time…

Until next week…

In Real Life: Week 1

One of my favorite bloggers, Tracy, at Shutterbean, does this amazing weekly blog series where she collects and shares her favorite photos from the week in a little casual recap. I love to read it each week, and I have long thought that I wanted to do that too! So I’ve decided why not?

So without further ado… here’s my real life from the first week of 2017.

I finally got around to putting the Christmas decor away on Monday. Goodbye until next year, Mr. Penguin!

img_1361

We got a few “baby’s first Christmas” ornaments this year, but I think this Willow Tree one (a gift from my friend, Sydney) is my favorite.

img_1363

Food prep during nap time. This was some bacon, bell peppers, and spinach that ultimately went into a frittata that I ate for breakfast 3 times this week. I’m trying to get back to a lower carb diet, since it has worked so well for me, but breakfast is an especially hard meal to prepare when I’m home alone with the kiddos. I found that a little prep helps me stay more on track.

img_1373

It rained nearly every day this week.

img_1397

WET.

fullsizeoutput_a53

I’ve been super productive, though. And, confession: sometimes I write things on my to-do list that I’ve already done, just so I can check them off. #typeA

fullsizeoutput_a12

Like reorganizing the baby dresser. It makes me a little sad to already be putting away all of the newborn sizes.

fullsizeoutput_a15

But when I’m not running around being super-efficient, this is what my life looks like a lot of the time. Note the coffee cup. SO MUCH COFFEE.

img_1384

Jack sure likes his play mat.

fullsizeoutput_a5f

A candid moment. My heart essplode.

img_1377

I’ve been back at the gym for a couple of weeks now. Barre is a class that kicks my ass every time, but I kind of love it. And I’m finding that the exercise is just as good for my sanity as it is for my body.

img_1425

Jack and I also went for a long hike this week!

img_1431

We finally got a break in the rain, so we got out to Henry Cowell State Park with the local Hike It Baby group.

The redwoods are TALL.

fullsizeoutput_a51

I carried Jack in my Baby K’tan carrier, and he slept for the entire 2 hours we were out.

img_1461

The view from the top was amazing! It was a perfect day, and, even though the photo doesn’t do it justice, we could actually see the ocean from the top!

img_1464

I took lots of photos, and then had fun editing them afterwards. I half expected Frodo to show up after I finished this one.

fullsizeoutput_a4f

This is a train trestle we passed under.

fullsizeoutput_a48

The moss is proliferative right now.

fullsizeoutput_a52

A little wisdom at the sandwich shop.

fullsizeoutput_a63

I’m a sucker for pulled pork.

img_1492

And that’s a wrap for this week. How was your first week of 2017?
